C.F. Tietgen

Built by Harland & Wolff Ltd., Belfast, the very shipyard that also constructed the famous Titanic, C.F. Tietgen was originally launched in 1897 as Rotterdam for the Holland Amerika Lijn with an overall length of 486 ft. and a gross tonnage of 8,173. She was sold to DFDS Kjøbenhavn in April 1906 and renamed C.F. Tietgen, mainly sailing for the Skandinavien-Amerika Linien on the Copenhagen-Christiania-Christiansand-New York service, crossing the Atlantic 110 times before being sold to the Russian America Line, Libau, in December 1913. Her twin-screw triple expansion propulsion allowed her a service speed of 14 knots, giving accomodation to 191 first-class, 90 second-class and 610 third-class passengers.
