Built in only 13 months by the Stettiner Maschinbau AG "Vulcan", Frederik VIII was the largest Scandinavian steamer when she entered service in February 1914 for the Skandinavian-Amerika Linie. She had an overall length of 542 ft. and a gross tonnage of 11,850 and was designed to accomodate 121 first-class, 259 second-class and 881 third-class passengers. Her twin-screw propulsion sped her up to a maximum speed of 17 knots. Frederik VIII remained on the transatlantic run up until December 1935 before being finally sold in 1936 for demolition. When she left the Copenhagen-New York service it was actually the end of the Scandinavian-American Line.
